The project has 1,100m² of floor space and is distinctive due to its modern structure. In the future, it can be expanded horizontally and vertically on another floor. To meet current demand, BBS-Fiocruz can store approximately 1.5 million aliquots of biological materials under suitable temperature, humidity, and pressure conditions.

To achieve maximum efficiency in developing its activities, operations, and maintenance, the building was constructed based on three principles valued by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation: sustainability, accessibility, and user comfort. For these purposes, BBS-Fiocruz has:
Stabilized power supply with redundancy.
Autonomy of water supply for 48 hours in situations of supply interruption by the concessionaire.
Effluent decontamination system with Sewage Treatment Plant
Central of various gases, with special attention to the supply of liquid nitrogen for cryopreservation equipment.
Automated monitoring system (control and supervision) of the collections maintenance.
Automation serving infrastructure process organization with asset management.
Remote monitoring and operation of the various systems, using IOT, Industry 4.0 and Big Data technologies.
Fire and panic prevention and combat system.
Access control of external and restricted internal areas.
Closed circuit television (CCTV).
